Bar Laika presents Playback 007 with A-1 Records

Join us at Bar Laika on Wednesday, May 8 from 6pm for the seventh edition of Playback with A-1 Records.

Standing firm since 1996, A-1 Record Shop has proved itself a central hub for that section of the global musical community inclined to acquire vinyl. Over time, A-1 has borne witness to the vicissitudes of public interest, weathering the format’s decline and supposed obsolescence only to come out on the other side thriving, as the world around the East Village has grown (slightly) more in tune with its record-centric past. Although the shop’s reputation was constructed on beat-driven music, the volume and generic range of records processed at A-1 necessitates the continuous subdivision of its many sections, ensuring the ever-present possibility of (re-)discovery. To be sure, if one walks out of A-1 empty-handed, it is simply because they did not look hard enough.

Playback is a series of listening events curated by Kamran Sadeghi where record labels, musicians, composers, and producers feature recordings from their catalog, and premiere album pre-releases, archives, and other rarities.
